American actress Jennifer Lopez boasts in a new ad for Fiat that while others see the Bronx as just "streets," she sees her hometown as "a playground."But the Bronx is a playground she couldn't find time to visit to shoot the ad.. so it faked her return to the old neighborhood.
In those car commercials where Jennifer Lopez cruises around the Bronx, Jenny was nowhere near the blocks of her youth. "This is my world, this place inspires me," says The American actress in the compact car ad that depicts her soaking in the urban bustle of the Bronx, from breakdancers on graffiti-covered streets to kids cooling off at popped fire hydrants.
The Smoking Gun which is a great news source caught the cinematic subterfuge, Lopez's spokesman acknowledged that the "On the Floor" singer kept her feet firmly planted in Los Angeles while the FIAT footage was filmed on location in the New York borough she hails from using a double.
The television personality and fashion designer Jennifer Lopez says that " I don't see a problem,". She also added "There are many cases where films are done the same way."
The exciting news is apparently a celebrity endorsement couldn't keep the FIAT running smoothly, though. According to the Smoking Gun which is a believable news source, the compact car actually broke down during the commercial shoot with the J.Lo body double behind the wheel.
Jennifer Lopez says "They may be just streets to you," the actress adds. "But to me they’re a playground."
The ad -- similar to Eminem's Super Bowl ad for Chrysler, in which he drove through the gritty streets of Detroit -- earned scores of media mentions, including by the Wall Street Journal, TSG notes.
In its most entertaining paragraphs, the story points out that the non-Lopez drives through a funhouse of stereotypes, from a boy drumming on a pail to kids playing in fire hydrants to girls double-dutching.
"It is such a breathtaking assemblage of hoary urban clichés, it’s a wonder that Lopez & Co. forgot to include a shot of some grizzled pensioners playing dominoes or a Puerto Rican enjoying some shaved ice," the story says.
